Tourism needs to benefit everyone, not just big international hotel chains.
Sustainable community tourism is a benefit to everyone, it reduces local crime and benefits the tourist who enjoy exploring the local community which many do,without the fear of becoming a victim to crime.
Holidaymakes enjoy exploring local communities and talking with the local’s and getting a real taste for Jamaica outside the hotel walls.
I have met many tourist who say the best part of their holiday is coming out of the resort and socializing with the community eating drinking and having a good time sharing stories.
For tourism to grow local communities need to feel part of the Jamaican tourism product and not sidelined and excluded, while multi-national companies build large scale resorts that do not benefit those who live locally.
It takes all working together to achieve this.
With the government leading the way through workable initiatives and multi-national hotel chains working in a responsible way.
